Everyone thinks hamstring flexibility is about stretching harder. What really matters is engagement. Specifically quadricep engagement. Straightening the leg requires the front thigh muscles to turn on and fire on all cylinders. Those muscles shortening are the training ground for hamstring length. When the quads actively straighten the knee, they create reciprocal inhibition — which tells the hamstrings it’s safe to let go. So instead of yanking on the back of your leg, try this: • Hug one knee in • Extend the leg toward the ceiling • Actively straighten the knee • Pull the toes back • Lower with control Try to keep the move slow and controlled because flexibility that you can control is the kind that lasts. The way my hamstrings were screaming at me but kept it cool while filming this, I might actually make a good poker player 😆 Save this one next time your hips & hamstrings need some love! Hamstring activation is pretty much non-existent in most yoga classes. Even when the knees are bent - which is the main job of hamstrings - it’s mostly gravity & positioning doing the work. After hips, hamstrings might be the most requested body part to stretch, and I get it. They feel tight! IG doesn’t give me enough space to go into all the nuance of why that might be the case, but after 15 years of teaching and recovering from my own hamstring & hip issues, I am willing to bet that just stretching your hamstrings is not helpful beyond temporary relief. Love this drill because it stretches the entire back of the leg and ankle as well as forcing my hamstring to fire up & keep my foot off the floor. 🔥 Bonus adductor stretch if you hang out in that bottom position for a while! #hamstringstretch #hamstringstrength #hipmobility

Master Oogway said "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it" This is a common problem I see with mobility work all the time and it makes sense when you read it... A part feels tight so I stretch it ...but this can actually create more tightness if the underlying weakness hasn't been addressed 😅 #tighthips #dailyhabits #mobility

Not every stretch needs to look the same. You can hold a position and allow the tissue to relax over time, or you can gently move within the stretch. Both approaches are valid, it simply depends on your goal. Listen to your body. Stay where the stretch feels most beneficial. 👉 Comment “𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘” to build a daily mobility routine that actually works.

Hamstring tightness isn’t the problem — lack of control through range is. These are the movements I use to increase hamstring mobility while protecting the nervous system and joints, not forcing flexibility for aesthetics. This is about: • teaching the hamstrings to lengthen under load • integrating hips, adductors, and spine • and reducing strain before it turns into injury Mobility isn’t how far you stretch — it’s how well you can move there and come back out 🤎 Save this for lower body days, rest days, or anytime your posterior chain feels guarded. Save this for your warm-up 🧠 Send it to someone who always “pulls” a hamstring ✨ #HamstringMobility #MovementMedicine #InjuryPrevention #YogaForLifters #StillnessAndStrength

Start your day with the World’s Greatest Stretch + hamstring rock.🏃♂️ This isn’t just any stretch — it’s a full-body mobility flow designed to open your hips, restore thoracic rotation, and free your shoulders. Most of us spend hours sitting, which tightens muscles, stiffens joints, and creates tension throughout the body. Over time, this can lead to poor posture, nagging pain, and limited movement. The World’s Greatest Stretch addresses multiple areas at once. By combining a deep lunge with torso twists and a hamstring rock, you: • Loosen tight hip flexors and hamstrings • Restore thoracic spine rotation • Increase shoulder mobility • Promote fluid, coordinated movement This one movement can help reduce tension, retrain your body to move naturally, and rebuild mobility — all without forcing your joints or muscles. It’s the perfect way to reset your body in the morning, combat the effects of sitting, and start your day feeling more energized and capable. Even 2–3 minutes of this flow daily can make a noticeable difference in flexibility, posture, and overall movement quality. Start here — your body will thank you.

Hamstrings or hips? See if your feet splay out when you try to fold, that would be a good indicator that it’s not just hamstring tightness, and you might want to look at hips. More specifically, anterior tilt. Your legs need to be able to internally rotate so the hips can do the action of tilting forward. So if your internal rotation is limited, then most likely the movement in the hips is limited and then folding is limited.
