Jumping spiders are a very advanced species of arachnid! Studies show their brains are a lot more complex and they’re much more intelligent than we think! I’m going to go into depth on the fun facts mentioned in the video above in this caption so continue reading if you wanna learn about just how smart web puppies really are! #1: Studies are beginning to show that jumping spiders will recognize you if you’re around them enough. They can associate you with positive experiences, such as gently handling them and feeding them. Therefore, the more you spend time with them and care for them, the more comfortable they will become around you. #2: They will observe you, especially while handling. They will stop and stare, and might turn their heads curiously. Similar to other animals, jumping spiders may turn their heads curiously when they are observing you. This is a trait that is not observed in any other arachnid species and its unique to salticidae. #3: Jumpers have sleeping patterns, and it has been noted that they experience a similar pattern to humans. During REM, their legs twitch and their eyes move. Dreaming involves a complex amount of brain activity which is hard to measure in spiders, so it’s not definitive, but it’s possible! #4: Jumping spiders are know for being fuzzy, but all these tiny hairs have functions. This is how they feel and sense. They are very sensitive to touch, so a spider that lets you hold and even gently pet it without signs of distress is an extremely trusting spider. #5: You may have heard that jumping spiders display their own unique personalities, and this is true! They each have their own unique hunting, explorative, and interactive behaviors! #6: As an intelligent species, jumpers need enriched environments with at least some decorations and hiding spots to be happy. #7: Jumpers will reshape their hunting techniques based on their failures and successes. They have the capability to replicate and mimic the behavior of other species to avoid predators. They also have great memory retention and can remember where they successfully get food and continue to go back to that place.

Been getting a TON of questions, so I made a jumping spider playlist on my profile & answered the questions below! ⬇️ 1. Yes they bite, but it is very unlikely for them to bite humans unless they feel threatened OR if your hand smells like your last dinner. 2. It’s pretty hard to lose them. They stay in their cage unless you take them out to handle them, and at that point, all your attention has to be on them. 3. I bought her from @exotics.source 4. This is really common! Jumping spiders don’t look or move like the ones people are usually scared of. They’re small, have big eyes, and move more slowly and intentionally, so they feel less creepy. 5. Usually no. When you handle them they tend to stay on your hand or move around slowly, sometimes jumping to another spot. They are more curious than scared and usually only try to get away if they feel threatened. #jumpingspider #pets #spider #reptiles #explorepage

Keeping our spiders safe 😁🕷️ Over the years of showing these amazing creatures I often get asked “Aren’t you afraid to lose them because theyre so tiny?!” This is a legitimate concern for most people but there are MANY ways to avoid this! Having an enclosure with proper ventilation and no gaps will ensure that our spiders stay safe 😁 We will have safe and secure enclosures at the @allanimalexpo this weekend 😁❤️ Handling your jumping spider over a open surface such as a dining room table is an excellent way to interact with them while ensuring that if they are to jump off your hands, you can easily access them 🕷️☺️ • • • • • • #jumpingspider#jumpingspiders#jumpingspiderenclosure#jumpingspidersofinstagram#phidippus#phidippusregius#phidippusotiosus#jumpingspooderjungalow

First time getting bit by a jumping spider. I was totally shocked because Honey is the sweetest little spood and wasn’t acting aggressive at all, which is how I ended up capturing this moment. Pretty sure I just smelled way too tasty and she had to investigate with a nibble. Definitely a reminder to thoroughly wash my hands before handling... sometimes I get lazy and just do a quick rinse. Don’t worry, we’re both fine! • • • #jumpingspider #jumpingspidersoftheworld #hyllusdiardi #oops

Freya is helping me show off the trust I've built with my pet spiders. Now, whenever I open their enclosure and talk to them, every single one of my babies comes to me on their own. Jumping spiders are seriously intelligent and have impressive recognition skills - they can remember your face, scent, and even the vibrations of your voice! This is made possible by their 360° vision and body hairs that detect vibrations in their environment. Pretty cool, right? 🤍🕸️ Want more content like this? Tips and helpful info?
