A wise old fox for #FoxyFriday - It's been one of those weeks where I haven't had that much creative time and when I did get a chance most of the results have ended up in the bin, so apologies to all of you out there but you are going to have to put up with a monotype you have seen before... granted a fair while ago. - For the technique-minded amongst you, this is a monotype using @dalerrowney1783 oil paint and @st.cuthberts.mill Somerset paper, which is dampened before use. At this time of year when the plants are still not so abundant what else can we print? In college I made a whole series of prints of clothing, they often print beautifully like this stocking, you can try printing with anything… what would you print? I think this one looks like a really grainy photograph… I love the detail as always and the way monoprinting always highlights the unnoticed. Burnout is real, especially when it's your business. Here are some ways that help me get out of my rut. 🌼1. Small tasks - Focusing on small, low effort tasks instead of overwhelming myself and feeling the imposter syndrome effect. 🌸2. Reset - I always find cleaning my workspace resets everything in my brain and how I can work on new tasks. 🏵️3. Getting out - stepping outside from my usual space for a walk, or visiting a bookstore or even a garden nursery always helps me feel inspired again. 🌻4. Sketchbooking - going back to my sketchbook and making no pressure marks and letting loose has always slowly gotten me back into my rhythm. Even looking through old sketchbooks remind myself I have created before and I won't be stopping anytime soon. 🪷5. Extra boost - experimenting with a new medium or even starting a new hobby. This week I started my monotype printing journey and I'm kicking myself for not starting soon. It's such a great medium to experiment with shapes and colours and each print is so unique. Very different from traditional relief printing where I feel everything needs to be perfect, especially editions. To sum everything up, it's less about finding motivation and more about creating little sparks of inspiration again. Those little sparks add up in time. These methods may not work for you but they definitely help me little by little. Save this for the days when creating feels like a heavy, daunting task.
