*** Printmaking Workshops *** - Do you fancy immersing yourself in ink, paint and printing presses in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire countryside this Spring? If so, keep reading. - I’m going to be leading three workshops in a purpose built studio – one will explore drypoint, one will explore monotype and the final one will roll them all into one to combine the two processes. So, if you’ve ever wondered how I produce my work and want to have a go yourself this is your chance! - The workshops will be full days with refreshments and a feast of a kitchen garden lunch included. The dates are yet to be finalised but will probably be late April... maybe early May. - Do comment below or DM me if you are tempted and I’ll make sure you are sent all the details as soon as possible. Numbers are strictly limited to ten people per workshop... so the early bird will definitely catch the worm. - I also have a question... do you think we should run them over three consecutive days to give people a chance to do all three in one block, as well as allowing others to dip into just doing one out of the three workshops? Or should we spread them out over a few weeks, so if one date is inconvenient you may be able to do the other/s? I get a lot of questions about my process so here is a step-by-step explanation which you can see in the video: 1️⃣ paint an image using water-based inks or paints onto a glass or perspex plate (not shown) 2️⃣ let fully dry 3️⃣ once dry, select your substrate. you will get different effects depending on your substrate type, the heaviness of the paper, whether its textile, etc. I used handmade Japanese paper. 4️⃣ wet your substrate & dab it dry. I like to print when it’s damp, still cool but not dripping 5️⃣ place your substrate carefully onto your image/printing plate. I use a piece of paper to protect from bleeding. 6️⃣ time to print! I use a roller/beater but you can use your hands and apply even pressure, or a wooden spoon or press 7️⃣ once you’re happy with the image, lift carefully and voilà - you’ve got a monotype! I love this method but there are so many different ways to print monotypes, chime in and share your experiences! Another monoprint using a foil covered card takeaway lid as a plate, this time playing with wiping a lot of the ink away to leave the subject in focus. I had lots of lovely interest and questions from my last post so I’ll cover some of the main points again here for you just in case: Equipment used: - takeaway container lid - basically a foil coated card and yes you can reuse it a few times if you’re gentle 👍🏻 - Ink from Charbonnel - Paynes Grey etching/relief oil based - but any that’s thick enough to work with and not dry out quickly will work - paper type unknown as an old off cut but its quite thick so has some give to it when going through the press - I’ve soaked it in water for around 15 minutes and then blotted it touch dry to get that embossed edge - plus I think it prints slightly better than dry 🤷‍♀️ #slowmade #originalart #printmaking #monoprint #artworkinprogress #monoprinting #monotype #handdrawn #artandmemory #retroarmchair #oneofakindart #artlovers

I’m having more fun then I thought I would exploring several approaches to one design in monotype printing. I’ve gotten a new plate and am working hard at getting it broken in (but still keeping it clean!) I made five or six renditions of this illustration~ Curious to see all of my attempts at this one? They are all in my grid for a more leisurely viewing experience. I continue to ponder what inspires me these days, I’m looking forward to some deep dives this winter and spring and excited to share along the way.
