🌊 Certain tides bring the delicate Paper Nautilus to New Zealand's shores a breathtaking gift from the ocean. Carried by the currents, these remarkable shells, the female protect their eggs, arrive after a journey fraught with waves and obstacles. It’s incredible how some remain intact, their fragile beauty preserved. Most, however, bear the marks of their travels, with tiny holes or broken edges. The last #ROVHercules dive of 2024 certainly was the #grandfinale of the season: our #CorpsofExploration witnessed four #Palaunautilus individuals (Nautilus belauensis) in #Palau’s #GermanChannel! These are the first sightings of #nautiloids — the most primitive #cephalopods — from #EVNautilus after 1000+ ROV dives over the last 15 years of operations.
