How to prune olive tree? Olives are pruned in late spring or early summer. Olive trees are really hardy and don’t suffer from die back so you can prune them anywhere, however there’s a few tips you want to follow. First, we want to prune anything that is dead or weak and also any crossing branches that could rub and cause disease. Every cut that you make is going to produce two to three new shoots from the cutting point think about that when shaping the tree. You can prune by around two thirds if needed always pruning above a bud where possible. #garden #gardening

When to prune my olive tree is the question? My olive true pruning is mostly done in the late spring/summer after the frosts and cold weather have gone That way you limit chance of disease creeping in from wet cold weather but this one needed just a little tidy up rather than major work so late summer is still absolutely ok for a small glow up 😊 #olivetree #pruning #englishcountrygarden

This olive tree was on its last legs. Sparce, leggy, and just not thriving. Early Spring I did something extreme - a hard prune! It looks extreme, however within a few months I started to see the new growth shoot through . 18 months later it’s looking better than ever! #gardeing #pruning #olivetree

Happy Easter! Don’t be scared to prune your olive tree. This way the tree crown will be full with leaves. If you wait to long the tree wil most of the time have leaves only on top. This tree I pruned into branches with round leave bulbs. Now wait till the new leaves appear so the bulbs will be more full with leaves. Have a nice day! 🫒 This month we are Pruning our Olive Trees! 🫒 Pruning them now, especially if your tree heads have grown too big or randomly out of shape allows the tree to grow back with lovely vigorous fresh growth. 🫒 This is a hard prune - not for the faint of heart - but your tree will appreciate it and will come back even stronger. Don’t forget to keep your olive trees fed from now, right through summer. These are hungry trees, and will love a twice-weekly liquid feed as well as a top dress of chicken pellets. 🫒 Of course, if your own tree is compact and healthy, you won’t need to do a hard prune like this, but just a little trim to keep it in shape.

Here are our TOP 3 TIPS for caring for your 🫒OLIVE TREE🫒 1. Pruning ✂️ Regular pruning is essential for olive tree health and productivity. Prune your olive tree in the late winter or early spring to remove dead, diseased, or damaged wood. Also, remove any suckers or water sprouts that grow from the base of the tree. 2. Watering 💦 Olive trees are drought-tolerant, but they still need regular watering, especially during the first few years after planting. Deeply water your olive tree once a week, and increase the frequency during hot or dry periods. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. 3. Fertilising🌿 Olive trees don’t require a lot of fertiliser, but they do benefit from occasional feeding. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in the spring, and repeat once or twice during the growing season if needed. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers, as these can promote excessive vegetative growth at the expense of fruit production. Before/After: How to prune an olive tree 🌿 Olive tree pruning is essential to maintain a healthy structure, improve airflow, and increase fruit quality. Without pruning, olive trees can become dense, shaded, and less productive over time. Here are the key steps to prune an olive tree. First, remove all suckers at the base of the trunk. These shoots take energy away from the main tree and do not contribute to fruit production. Second, remove dead or damaged wood. This helps prevent disease and keeps the tree healthy. Third, remove branches growing inward or crossing each other. Opening the canopy allows sunlight to reach the inner parts of the tree and improves air circulation. Fourth, cut back excessive vertical growth. This helps balance the tree and makes harvesting easier. The goal is to create an open, well-structured tree that allows light and air to circulate freely. This improves flowering, fruit set, and overall olive production. With regular pruning, your olive tree will stay productive, easier to manage, and healthier for years. Green Love to you!
