This is one of my top tips for a quick quilt when you’re in a pinch! Patchwork. It’s simple, it’s timeless, it’s classic. #chefskiss But my absolute HACK to making patchwork quilts is to keep 5” (or whatever your preferred size square is) on hand. I have a full bin of 5” squares in all the colors of the rainbow. That way, when I need to make a quick quilt (like this baby quilt), a huge chunk of the work is already done! 💃🏻 A friend of mine is having a baby and is due any day so I’m trying to quickly make a baby quilt. However, she didn’t find out what she is having so I’m going to be making a girl quilt and a boy quilt!🙃 But I love her and am happy to do that! I’m sure you’re thinking, “procrastinate much?” and my answer would be “yes.” 😂😂 What can I say? I am what I am. ALSO, I love using the webbing method when piercing a patchwork quilt together. In fact, I have a step-by-step tutorial for this technique and I’ll send you the link to it! Maybe next year I’ll be more graceful in my quilt reveals 😂😂 maybe but probably not 🤪 I believe I was holding this sideways but it’s really a two person job due to the size. What can I say I love big quilts 🤍 for my month in #brightoverseasbee I chose nine patch blocks using 4.5” squares, one alternating pinks and the other all low volume, I thought it could be a very sweet Irish chain quilt. Love at the center 🩵 Patchwork quilts are so fun to make, but this one is a bit more special. The center block pieces were kept as whole as possible so this grandmother can be taken right back to those early days of motherhood when her girls were little. It’s a generational quilt filled with bits and pieces of memories and love. 💞

I’ve been working steadily on this quilt every evening, even if for just a few stitches. I’ve been calling this ‘My Second Garden’, which pays homage to the colorful 9 patch I made a few years ago called ‘My First Garden’; a scrapbook of all the color I produced in my first year of natural dyeing. This new quilt features my dye range after 5 years. Every year I build upon my knowledge and expand by creating even more new, interesting colors🎨 I’m eager to see what years 10, 15, 20 and beyond hold!
