If you’ve said this — you’re not alone. Maybe… you’re not lazy. Maybe… you’re just a perfectionist. I used to think perfectionism meant being obsessed with perfectly written paragraphs or flawless notes — and I didn’t see myself that way. But then I realized something: perfectionism can also look like never starting at all. Because if you don’t start, you can’t fail. If you don’t try, no one can see you fall short. And if you “wait until you feel ready,” you get to protect your self-image a little longer. Sound familiar? Here are 3 signs your procrastination might be rooted in perfectionism 👇 1️⃣ You avoid starting because you’re afraid it won’t be good enough. 2️⃣ You overplan — creating the “perfect” schedule instead of actually studying. 3️⃣ You criticize yourself constantly — nothing feels good enough, so why bother? 📌 Here’s the truth: the way out isn’t more motivation. It’s changing how you think about starting. I’ve helped hundreds of students beat this pattern — and it always starts with understanding that progress matters more than perfection. 📲 Follow me @dr.alina.md for science-backed study strategies that actually work.

👉Which one resonated for you the most? These are just a few of the factors that can lead to procrastination. For anyone looking for tips on how to overcome it so that you can get on with the things that matter to you, I’ve included a few points below. 👉Points for tackling procrastination: •Turn from the self-criticism to curiosity. So rather than get hard on yourself for it, ask yourself why it might be happening and be ready to get honest with yourself. •If a task feels overwhelming, don’t expect yourself to do it all at once. Break it down into tiny steps that don’t feel so daunting. •Start your day with the hardest task first. Minimise the time you have to talk yourself out of it, if that is what you do. •Start questioning your relationship with failure. Perfectionism makes us afraid to fail which can create a block to progress and risk taking. Learning about growth mindset can help this. • Get really honest with yourself about whether the goal is your own or someone else’s. Keep connected to why you are working toward this thing to help you over the hump of not feeling like it. For more, check out my book, Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? Start: If you want to stop being lazy, you need to at least read this whole thing… The 2 Minute Rule: The 2 minute rule is simple. Whenever you feel too lazy to do something, tell yourself you’re just going to do it for 2 minutes and then you can stop. It sounds stupid, but here’s WHY it works so well: - the hardest part about any task is starting it especially since there’s so many more entertaining things to be doing - the 2 minute rule lowers this resistance to starting allowing you to overcome the procrastination you face, easier - It also allows you to build the habit of “showing up” when you say you will, hence training your discipline at the same time! So, if you’re too lazy to study, convince yourself to just sit down and read 2 pages of your notes (2 minutes worth of work). After the 2 minutes are up, chances are you’ll just continue with the task since you have already built momentum! Apply this rule and you’ll never struggle with procrastination again… #lazy #selfimprovement #productivity #productivitytips #studytips #studymotivation

Procrastination means intentionally delaying an intended act
1,400,301

Procrastination means intentionally delaying an intended action despite know it will negatively impact us in the long run. Research shows that procrastination is an emotion regulation issue (instead of the commonly believed tune-management issue) We put off tasks that bring up uncomfortable or negative emotions for us (Sirois & Pychyl, 2013; Bytamar et al., 2020) Next time you find yourself putting something off, I encourage you to focus on what you feel when you think about this action/task. Acknowledge the feeling but also bring into awareness how you will feel once you complete the task. This will help minimize procrastination because you will recognize that temporary avoidance of uncomfortable feeling is not better than the long term benefit of getting the task done. Note: I encourage you to use the information I share on here as a guide. Everyone’s experience is unique so some strategies/tools might not be relevant to your specific situation. Please see disclaimer in my highlights. Take care of your mind and body. Love, Nawal ♥️

Procrastination isn’t laziness, it’s usually your brain avoiding something uncomfortable. Here’s what’s actually helped me stop putting things off: Start with the smallest possible action → Don’t commit to “study for 3 hours.” Just open your notes. Once you start, momentum builds naturally and you usually keep going. Work out why you’re procrastinating → Are you confused about the task? Overwhelmed? Tired? Bored? The solution depends on the actual problem, not just “trying harder.” Even though this might sound silly, writing out why you don’t want to do the task can be really helpful because then you can visually see your blocks and work out how to overcome it:) Use the 2-minute rule → If something takes less than 2 minutes, do it immediately. Clearing small tasks stops them piling up and making you feel overwhelmed. Examples of this is like cleaning mess in your room, putting away laundry etc. As soon as you do one thing you will automatically feel more productive I promise! Remove the friction → Keep your study space ready. Have your notes organised. The easier it is to start, the less you’ll procrastinate. Set a timer for 10 minutes → Tell yourself you only have to work for 10 minutes. Usually you’ll keep going after, but even if you don’t, 10 minutes is better than nothing, and you will still feel accomplished because you did what you told yourself that you would do! Schedule in procrastination time → Sounds backwards but having guilt-free time to do nothing actually helps. Knowing you have downtime later makes it easier to focus now, and it is super healthy + needed to rest!! Accountability → Study with friends, set deadlines with consequences, tell someone your plan. External pressure helps when internal motivation doesn’t. The key is understanding that procrastination is a habit, not a personality trait. You can change it with the right strategies I promise and even making one small step can help a lot with procrastination:) 🌟If you want to carry on learning how to work smarter not harder as a student so you have more time back within your day then check out my study guides/community - link in bio:) #studyhacks #studygoals #procastination

3 Methods to help you get back to work ⬇️

3 Methods to help you get back to work ⬇️ Are you procrastinating getting back to work/studying by reading this post? I’ve got you! I don’t know about you, but whenever I have a lot of tasks on my to-do list, I can freeze and become overwhelmed by the thought of getting things done, instead of doing them. So here are 3 methods I use to help me get back to work, instead of procrastinating: 1️⃣5 Second Rule: I learned about this from Mel Robbins, but I love using this method for tasks that I’m dreading to start working on. I use it for when I need to get things done for work, but not necessarily enjoy, and it works every time. All you need to do is count down 5-4-3-2-1 before starting a task, and already be in motion to take action once you reach 1. Simply opening your laptop, or the document you’re working on will help you get momentum to start. 2️⃣3-2-1 Method: I applied from my favourite planning system that I developed for myself, it’s just adjusted. When I have a lot going on and need to prioritise tasks, I like to focus on 3 main tasks, work on each for 2 hours at the time, and finish them in 1 day. 3️⃣Task switching: this is for situations when you have to finish your work and do your chores because suddenly you’re an adult with responsibilities. I use this when working from home, and make my breaks productive between block of work by cleaning and doing house chores. 💬Have you tried any of these methods yourself?
