Make a demo first. I used old towels (they’re thick like a quilt) so I could test the fit and construction before cutting into a precious quilt—and I’m so glad I did. It gave me the confidence to finally do it! ✨After my mock-up, I made three small but important changes:
1️⃣ Lengthened the sleeves and body hem about 3”
2️⃣ Gave the neckline a little more room (about 1” at the shoulders)
3️⃣ Added a scalloped hem by tracing a bowl and finishing it with bias binding to gently hug the curves ✨If sewing a quilt jacket is something you’ve been longing to try—but indecision or fear of choosing the wrong pattern has held you back—this is your sign. ✨I’ve gathered 6 great quilt jacket patterns so you don’t have to guess. My first #SwsRue 💕 This was supposed to be a quick and dirty muslin but a)quilted coats are not a quick thing to sew and b) I love it very much so no need to rush into making another one this season . I used thrifted bedsheet ( inside fabric) , doona cover I dyed with Rit cocoa brown ( thanks @minimalistmachinist for your influence 💕) and binding is mens cotton shirt.. all found in my local opshop💫 I still need to install snaps .. but it can wait . Batting is combo of wool ( body ) and bamboo ( sleeves) . You guys!!!!!! I love sewing again!!!! How sick is it to make clothes with your own hands!!! Delicious! Loving my new Rue Quilt Coat, I truly look my time, quilted all the pieces, and added pockets. My favorite this to do is make a jacket without pockets cuz I wanna just finish it quicker lol, but decided to just do it right and enjoy the process and wow, I’m obsessed! Pattern from @spaghetti_western_sewing ! Make yours and let’s match! Pink and teal checkered fabric is from @sewlike and I love it!!!

One of the things I love about the Flora Jacket pattern is how you can change the look of the jacket just with the placket. It’s main purpose is to provide stability for snaps, but you can put it on the inside of the jacket or leave it off all together if you’re fabric is thick enough. Here’s a closer look at one of my favourite floras - made from our mustard gingham quilted with a floral lining and rust linen binding. I used a contrasting blue gingham for the placket and I love how charming the result is! #floraistwo
