✷ Here’s a detailed breakdown of how I prep my blocks before carving! Every printmaker is a little different, and this is what works best for me: ✷ I favor using a soft cut block (like Speedycarve) but block type is very subjective and you should try a few kinds to see what works for you! ✷ I find that the process of tracing, transferring and then outlining again helps me figure out how I’m going to make my cuts when I start carving. ✷ And the carving is the BEST PART! ☁️⛅ Just Breathe… the last layer is down! This print has become my homage to the sky, a celebration of cloud-watching and a gentle reminder to pause, look up, and take a breath. Over the past few months, I’ve found so much comfort in these small moments of stillness and I hope this captures that feeling.⛅☁️ I’m so pleased with how it turned out, especially when I designed it without much thought for the practicalities of printing it! The jigsaw cuts on layers 1 and 3 were brutal (my hands are still recovering!), but in the end, I think it was worth the effort. ☺️ (Check my grid for more of the process!) Snowdrops - Linocutting Process ❄️ The Snowdrops plate has been cut and is now ready for print!! I can’t believe I’ve been carving. Lino for 7 years! I started my printmaking journey in my senior year of college 2017-2018 but didn’t start carving lino till after I graduated while working my first “big kid” job. It’s been a whirlwind of a 7 years. I now work full time as a printmaker and illustrator, have been doing so for over 2 years, and have made an incredible amount of work! Most of my linoprints fill enough space that I just need to be careful when inking and that’s enough to get a clean print with minimal chatter. When I’m doing multiple layers in a print, the elements that need to be inked can be small and spaced far apart, making it difficult to ink cleanly. When that’s the case, I just make an ink shield and don’t worry about it too getting ink where it’s not supposed to be. #printmaking #linocut #printmaker #blockprint #linoprint

Intricate bee linocut print. Carved over several months with a huge amount of detail going inyo the wings to make them as lightweight and delicate as possible. Bee wings are made of a thin membrane supported by a network of veins, which provide strength and carry hemolymph (insect “blood”). This linocut print consisted of two plates. One consited of the yellow areas and was printed first. The second, contained the black details.
