Hercules, one of our Reticulated Pythons (Malayopython reticulatus), looking good afternoon shed. This is the longest species of snake in the world where Green Anacondas are the heaviest. Originating from South East Asian this is the only species that has been recorded swallowing grown men whole. The record length was around 10 to 11m, which is a massive snake. We don't see the giant record breakers anymore as people have killed the giant genes due to the skin and meat trade. This is a very dangerous animal in captivity if you don't know what you are doing. A feeding response can cost you your life. You have to tap train these animals as the feeding response is extremely strong in most individuals. So we tap them gently with a hook stick when we are not feeding. This often but nit always gets them out of the feeding mode quickly. They can kill faster than any venomous snake on earth. This is why it is very important to always have another person present. This is definitely not a good pet and only recommended for the real enthusiasts with experience and good understanding of what is involved. Other than that, they are amazing species to work with. We often use them in educational shows with kids. Once they know it is you, they are extremely tolerant like most snakes. This is why we also only feed them in the cage so as to not ever associate being handled and fed. Also, it is natural for prey to come to an ambush predator. Do you know what is worse than a hungry Reticulated python? The one that just ate as it will want more and that could be you. #reticulatedpython #python #malayopython #malayopythonrericulatus #snake
