Bay scallops like this have blue eyes along the mantle. Their eyes detect shadows and movement so they can escape predators! This scallop was left high and dry from the low tide today so I put it in deeper water. #marineinvertebrates #marinebiology #beachcombing #scalloping #bayscallops

Last night’s beach walk was magical and SO awesome! 🌊✨ We found a scallop shell… and it was still alive. Watching it slowly open and then suddenly snap shut was soooo cool! None of us had ever seen anything like it before.
