This is one of my top tips for a quick quilt when you’re in a pinch! Patchwork. It’s simple, it’s timeless, it’s classic. #chefskiss But my absolute HACK to making patchwork quilts is to keep 5” (or whatever your preferred size square is) on hand. I have a full bin of 5” squares in all the colors of the rainbow. That way, when I need to make a quick quilt (like this baby quilt), a huge chunk of the work is already done! 💃🏻 A friend of mine is having a baby and is due any day so I’m trying to quickly make a baby quilt. However, she didn’t find out what she is having so I’m going to be making a girl quilt and a boy quilt!🙃 But I love her and am happy to do that! I’m sure you’re thinking, “procrastinate much?” and my answer would be “yes.” 😂😂 What can I say? I am what I am. ALSO, I love using the webbing method when piercing a patchwork quilt together. In fact, I have a step-by-step tutorial for this technique and I’ll send you the link to it! In honor of Earth Day (April 22), I reached for my scrap bins to create a pouch entirely from leftover pieces from other projects. It was so fun to see these colorful fabrics again and remember the projects I previously made with them. I used my favorite method for piecing small, patchwork pieces (if you've been around awhile, you've seen me do this before). By adhering the squares to fusible interfacing (Pellon SF101) then sewing seams for the rows and columns, it speeds up the process AND you end up with perfect points. Every. I need help picking fabrics…and I know you all have opinions! 😜 I’m about to start cutting for my next quilt pattern (I’m sooooo excited about this one!) and I can’t decide on which background…solid ivory or a speckled ivory? AND which accent color? Dot chambray or rainbow chambray? I’m not good with making decisions and because of that, allllll of those little florals are probably going to make their way into the quilt. The more the merrier, right?! I’m already getting all the feels from the vintage vibe this version of the pattern has! The easy way to do perfect patchwork! 1. Start with a big piece of fusible interfacing (I like Pellon SF101). 2. Place squares on the fusible side. 3. Iron to fuse the squares to the interfacing. 4. Fold down one row and sew a 1/4" seam. 5. Repeat for the remaining rows. 6. Make a small snip at the intersection of the seam and each column (be careful to not cut into the thread from the seam!) 7. Iron seams in alternating directions to allow seams to nest. 8. Fold down the first column. Sew with a 1/4" seam. 9. Repeat until all columns are sewn. 10. Press in one direction. The interfacing gives the patchwork panel added structure that's perfect for pouches!!
