The Great Sphinx bears the scars of time in ways that challenge conventional Egyptian chronology. The distinctive vertical weathering patterns along its enclosure walls and body show signs of prolonged water erosion - not wind and sand erosion as we’d expect in a desert climate. Geologist Robert Schoch and researcher John Anthony West proposed these patterns could only have been created by heavy rainfall periods, last seen in Egypt around 10,000-5,000 BCE, long before the accepted dating of 2500 BCE.
