Why don't I annotate?📑 ✨️I'm lazy and it feels like work. I just want to lie down and read page after page. If a line hits me, I take a picture of it or I put a little sticky tab within the page. ✨️I tried annotating back in 2022 but then it felt like I was just doing it because most bookstagrammers on my feed were doing the same. Honestly, I love looking at how clean my books look. ✨️While I am someone who loves to create doodles and write with cute and pretty handwriting, I'm never happy about them. I always regret how they turn out because it looks messy in my eyes. ✨️I want to be able to share my books (to close friends and family) and pass it down to my children/nephews/nieces and I don't want to influence them with my opinion or which part of the book I gave extra attention too. ✨️I love seeing everyone's annotations — always so pretty!! I tried annotating for the first time and I get the appeal now. I was inspired by @thebookleo's video on how annotating can help to replace your doomscrolling and although it only helped me with that marginally, what I did learn from the video was that annotating is truly about the journey and not the destination. Even if I were to never look back on what I wrote and what tabs I left, I still feel like the actual process elevated the reading experience for me. Am I annotating the books I'm currently reading (The Strength of the Few and Howling Dark)? Not really. 😂 BUT, I think for certain books, such as ones that are more speculative, I'll definitely be pulling out my tabs and pen. ❓QOTD: Do you annotate or tab your books while you read?

got a thousand comments asking how I annotate in my classroom so here is the full breakdown. I make the annotations first. there is a key in the top corner. we go through it together as a class, then in small groups, then independently. the structure changes based on what we are reading — Poe, poetry, nonfiction, fiction — but the process stays the same. I am a pen to paper person. always have been. as much as technology has a place in my classroom, annotation does not live there. especially in middle school. I would argue especially in any grade. you cannot analyze what you cannot slow down for. and nothing slows a reader down like a pencil in their hand. full walkthrough is in the video. save it if you want the system.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
