Starting a traveling annotated book club✨ This is so fun and I’m so happy that @dalitmamas got it together for us. If you want to make your own group, it’s pretty easy! 1. Get a group together that will actually participate in annotating and shipping the book. Our group is very spread out with the five people living in 3 different countries. 2. Assign everyone a color and then gather addresses to find who will ship to who. We used a random generator to make it more fair. 3. Choose a book to read and get started! 🇺🇸 I always get asked why I annotate my books. In the beginning it was just to help me remember important parts or quotes because I tend to forget after I read. But now I also do it as a conversation, a dialogue with my reading. I even put stickers and pictures inside my books 💖 I love them so much!!! QOTD: What’s a good reason to annotate a book? Annotating is one of my favorite study methods because it’s such a living in the moment activity. You’re not just passively reading, but you’re actively responding with the reading, as if you’re speaking to the author itself 💛 Here’s four steps on how you can annotate: 1. Identify the your tools + create a system Whether it be on paper or digital, you need to prepare the tools to be at flow. Writing tools can be sticky notes, highlighters, pens, and notepads. Digital tools can be finding the right app you can annotate. Create a system by using legends and color codes. 2. Don’t be afraid of being messy The messier it is, the more engaged you are. Write down your thoughts and additional info. Circle, underline, highlight, make arrows, add sticky notes or even doodle emojis! 3. Be engaged by understanding the intention Have a mindset you’re having a conversation with the author. Whether it’s a textbook or a book, it’s always a conversation. There is always a message that the author wants to share to you (yes, even those math & science textbooks!). Books always have objective to deliver a message to you. 4. Summarize with sticky tabs and/or journaling Write using an oil-based pen on the sticky tab with only a phrase or sentence that summarizes the passage it highlights. If you want to take a step further, journal about passages you deem important. Reflect about it—yap about it! Journaling is like a response letter to the author of the material. 💌 It gives me so much joy that I have been reading a lot lately. It’s all because I started annotating as I read. And you know how I grew this great joy? When I started reading the Bible. I’ve always been a study nerd, and who would have thought here I am being a nerd and willing to spend a lifetime studying, meditating, and annotating the Bible 🥹 It’s even lovely because this is the ultimate Author speaking to you. The Word is alive and active. I could converse with the Author through annotating, and in turn, I find myself habitually doing so in any other reading material I read.
