One of the most common mistakes is forward folding is bending at the center of the torso, where the natural waist is. This creates tension in the joints of the spine and forces the back to overly round. Instead, bend at the hip joins and draw the muscles of the lower abdomen in towards the spine. The flexibility can take years to achieve but it will be possible if you work with good technique. This is day two of #evolveyourpractice Ashtanga Challenge and the pose of the day is Upward Facing Dog. Join me live on @omstarsofficial right now to delve deeper into the foundational practice. Handing you the keys 🔑 6 key things I did to get strong and flexible for this transition. ↓ ✔️I worked on my puppy pose, in both the active and passive ranges. Hold 20-30 seconds at first and then work up to longer holds. ✔️ Puppy pose with bent elbows can feel totally different. Breathe into the intensity. Place elbows up on blocks, or press forearms against the wall to progress this conditioning exercise. ✔️To make sure my head would clear the floor, I got comfortable with Dolphin pose. Elbows one forearm's distance apart, practice with hands together or palms flat on the mat. Build up hold time. ✔️Scapular mobility and strength is THE secret the to solid #pincha holds. From Dolphin pose, practice mobilizing shoulder blades with scapular shrugs. Bend knees and draw navel in to support lower back and neck. Keep head between biceps and off the ground throughout the drill. ✔️Hollow body roll ups at the wall lend confidence to this transition and help build the core and leg strength necessary to lift off. Hand placement is palms flat against upper back with fingers pointing towards shoulder blades and elbows pointing towards top of the mat. Focus on hollow body and active legs more than height at first. ✨The MOST important thing I did? I kept practicing. 👇🏼What are your questions about this flow? I want to break it down for you. 🫶🏼 Remember to be safe and honor your body. #pinchamayurasana #blacksocks #yogaflow #yogahowto #yogatutorial #yogawarmup #conditioning #mobility #yesflaneuse

✨ Want to touch your toes in a forward fold? Focus on posture, not just reaching! 💫 One of the most common mistakes I see: rounding the back just to reach the toes. 👉🏼 But here’s the truth: forcing the shape won’t improve your flexibility. Focusing on alignment will. Here’s how to practice Standing Forward Fold properly: 1️⃣ Lengthen the spine: Instead of rounding down, hinge at the hips and imagine your spine staying long as you fold forward. 2️⃣ Bend the knees: Especially if your hamstrings are tight! Prioritize bringing your belly toward your thighs, not locking out the knees. 3️⃣ Focus on the connection: Belly-thigh connection comes first; touching the toes comes later, as your hamstring flexibility improves over time. 💡 Bonus tips: ✔️ Lightly engage your quads (this can actually help the hamstrings release) ✔️ Distribute your weight evenly across your feet, not just in the heels or toes ✔️ Let gravity and breath do the work, rather than pulling yourself down with your hands ✨ Breathe deeply and let go of the pressure to “look flexible”. Progress comes from mindful, consistent practice. 📌 Save this for later and tag a friend who needs this reminder! 💛 #forwardfold #hamstringflexibility #yogaforbeginners #flexibilitytips #yogapractice #stretchingroutine #mobilitytraining #yogajourney #flexibilitycoach #mindfulmovement
