The key to lasting behavioral change ISN’T what you think… Our behaviours are inherently tied to the perceptions we hold about ourselves. When we change the way we define ourselves, our actions naturally align to support this new self-concept. The research on identity-based habits is fascinating (I came across it while doing research for my PhD). It’s been primarily explored in the context of health and consumer behavior, as well as in educational context (specifically the link between identity & motivation of student to learn). 📚 Here’s a selection of early research: –Oyserman, D., Fryberg, S. A., & Yoder, N. (2007). Identity-based motivation and health. Journal of personality and social psychology, 93(6), 1011. –Berger, J., & Rand, L. (2008). Shifting signals to help health: Using identity signaling to reduce risky health behaviors. Journal of Consumer Research, 35(3), 509-518. –Kaplan, A., & Flum, H. (2009). Motivation and identity: The relations of action and development in educational contexts—An introduction to the special issue. Educational Psychologist, 44(2), 73-77. More recently, authors like James Clear have popularized the concepts. If you’re interested in learning more about habits, I recommend Atomic Habits. A fantastic synthesis of research coupled a highly applicable framework.

If you feel like you struggle with consistently getting behaviors to stick despite your best intentions, this is for you. I cannot emphasize enough that “just try harder” or “you need more willpower” are rarely ever the right answer. The key is not to exert yourself with as much brute force as possible, but rather to finesse your way into successful adherence. Try implementing these simple yet effective strategies to help you get better at doing the thing. 🤗 #BehaviorChange #HabitStacking #TemptationBundling

Ever heard of keystone habits? (BTW, while sleep is absolutely a keystone habit for just about everyone, I completely acknowledge that getting a full night of sleep is hard to come by for many, and I recognize that I’m very fortunate to rarely ever need to worry about sleep. Also, not everyone needs a solid 9 hours like I do to feel their best; some feel fantastic with a bit less. 😴The point of the message still stands nevertheless!) The way people treat you isn’t accidental—it’s conditioned. 🧠 In psychology, repeated behavior gets reinforced. Every time you ignore disrespect, overextend yourself, or stay silent to keep peace, you’re unconsciously teaching others that this version of access to you is acceptable. Over time, this becomes a pattern—your environment starts reflecting your internal boundaries, self-worth, and emotional limits. It’s not about blaming yourself, it’s about becoming aware: what you allow, you reinforce… and what you reinforce, you experience. Change doesn’t start with them—it starts with what you decide is no longer okay. ✨ Follow for more: @genzeepsychologist ✅ #SelfAwareness #PsychologicalTruth #BoundariesMatter #EmotionalIntelligence #MindsetShift ( behavioral conditioning, reinforcement theory, boundary setting, self-worth, emotional patterns, learned responses, interpersonal dynamics, cognitive awareness, self-respect, assertiveness, emotional regulation, habit loops, subconscious patterns 💭)

What are your thoughts on this? Human behavior tends to follow patterns; most actions aren’t isolated events. When someone sends a harsh message, oversteps a boundary, or reacts impulsively and dismisses it as a one-time slip, it’s often part of a broader pattern rather than a true exception. In many cases, behavior reflects repeated tendencies, not random moments. Paying attention to patterns instead of explanations can help you avoid ongoing frustration. Research on behavior and habits shows that consistency over time is a more reliable indicator of character than isolated apologies. When you shift your focus from what people say to what they repeatedly do, you gain clearer insight and can respond in ways that protect your boundaries and self-respect. 4 ways People change ~ John Maxwell Change is not always easy but absolutely necessary for our individual and collective growth. These are some of the more obvious ways people change -that might help you very quickly understand when and why it flows more to change directions 🧭 in Life Recently, I discovered that the more force we put onto a change -the more it resists to flow. At times it’s good to go fully into finishing a chapter that we might not like or fully enjoy but still something draws us back in like a magnet, even if it causes heartbreak, pain, temporary sorrow or loss- so it can naturally then change and adjust directions into a new life phase and direction (that in long term is more beneficial for our evolution). Sometimes you have to remind people how to treat you. Not with anger. Not with drama. But with presence and clear boundaries. With calm, quiet confidence, you show what is acceptable, and what is not. People often treat you the way they think they can, until you show them otherwise. A little demonstration, a little clarity, can make them slow down, pay attention, and respect your space. It doesn’t have to be a lecture or a confrontation; it can be as simple as standing your ground or holding your limits. Psychology calls it assertiveness: knowing your worth, stating your limits, and showing it through your actions. It’s not about controlling others, it’s about self-respect. It’s about valuing yourself enough to say: “This is who I am, this is what I accept, and I won’t settle for less.” Sometimes, reminding people doesn’t even need words. Your behavior, your presence, your consistency, they all speak louder than any argument. Small gestures, steady actions, clear lines, they teach people how to treat you better. And here’s the thing: it works. Even the smallest demonstration can change the way someone interacts with you, just like in this clip. Sometimes, just standing your ground is enough for people to finally “drive” the right way. You don’t have to shout. You don’t have to beg. You just have to show them who you are and what you deserve. Keep growing, always. Let People Show You Who They Are: Stop Trying to Change Others A boy shares an important lesson about relationships: You can’t change someone unless they want to change. When others don’t prioritize you or treat you in ways that don’t reflect your worth, it’s essential to let them be who they are. Their behavior speaks the truth about their feelings. In this video, he discusses why accepting people for who they are and setting boundaries is key to building healthy relationships.Stop wasting energy trying to change others and start choosing the relationships that truly serve you. PEOPLE’S BEHAVIOR — reflect their own ability/inability to face themselves. And that applies to each and every one of us as well 🤍 People who can’t communicate will likely view every disagreement as an argument. People who lack accountability will likely view feedback as an attack. People with little to no self awareness will view boundaries as betrayal. Stay focused on being the kind of person youre proud to be. ❣️ #personalgrowth #healingjourney #selfawareness #selfcompassion
