How to Introduce Bell Pepper (Capsicum) to Your Baby 🌶️👶 A lot of parents feel unsure about serving bell peppers when starting solids. They worry it’s too strong, too fibrous, or not suitable for babies. But here’s something most people don’t realize 👇 Bell peppers are incredibly nutritious. 💚They’re packed with: • Vitamin C (even more than many fruits) • Fiber for digestion • Antioxidants that support immunity And vitamin C is especially important because it helps improve iron absorption from other foods your baby eats. The good news? You don’t have to choose between finger foods or purées. It can absolutely be both! In this video my baby is 6.5 months old, and I’m showing two simple ways to introduce bell pepper: ✅ Steamed slices that pass the squish test (great for self-feeding as a finger food) ✅ Aloo shimla mirch (potato and bell pepper purée) for pre-loading a spoon or mixing into other foods Offering both textures helps babies learn how to chew, mash, and explore new flavors. Remember — starting solids isn’t about perfection. It’s about exposure, practice, and building confidence over time. If you have any questions about starting solids or serving vegetables like this, drop them in the comments below. #startingweaning #babyledweaning #firstfoodsforbaby #babyfeedingtips #vegetablesforbabies bellpepper indianbabyfood toddlernutrition parenteducation consistencyoverperfection

While you don’t have to remove the skin, it can be easier for babies 🫑 Bell pepper is one of the most nutritious on-the-go snacks out there. Pair it with some hummus for protein and iron, and you’ll really be rocking. The details: 1️⃣ Bell peppers may be introduced as soon as baby is ready for solids. Not sure if baby is ready? See our website (link in bio, search “Readiness”). 2️⃣ Bell peppers can have up to three times the amount of vitamin C per gram than an orange—a nutrient essential for immune health, iron absorption, and much more. These peppers are also rich in vitamins A, B6, and E, as well as folate and fiber. 3️⃣ The firm, slippery texture of bell peppers can pose a choking risk. To reduce the risk, cook the peppers until soft and cut into age-appropriate sizes. 4️⃣ Allergies to bell pepper are not common, but have been reported. People who are allergic to latex or certain plant pollens may be also be allergic to bell pepper or experience Oral Allergy Syndrome By age: ➡️ 6-8 mos: Hand baby a cooked bell pepper half, with pith, seeds, skin, and stem removed. Alternatively, you can serve dips, sauces, and spreads made from roasted bell pepper. ➡️ 9-17 mos: Offer cooked bell peppers (outer skin and inner seeds and pith removed), either in large sections for biting and tearing practice or small, bite-size pieces. Alternatively, serve paper-thin slices of raw bell pepper (skin on or off). ➡️ 18 mos+: Offer cooked bell pepper (pith, seeds, and stem removed) in slices or bite-sized pieces, either on its own or in a dish. At this age, many toddlers are ready for larger sections of raw bell pepper—offer in slices or even a half pepper, with seeds and pith removed. 📲 For more foods, download the Solid Starts App. #SolidStarts #blw #babyledweaning #firstfoods #startingsolids #whatmybabyeats #6monthsold #5monthsold #mealideas

🌱 Why You Must Pick Off the First Flowers on Your Bell Pepper Plant 🫑 If you want bigger, healthier bell peppers, removing the first flowers is a game-changer! Early blossoms drain energy from young plants, slowing down growth and reducing overall yield. By pinching them off, you encourage your plant to focus on developing stronger roots and foliage first—leading to a more productive harvest later. Pro Tip: Wait until your pepper plant is about 12-18 inches tall before allowing it to flower. You’ll thank yourself when you’re harvesting larger and more flavorful peppers! 🫑 Here’s your bell pepper growing tips with a surprise at the end! 🫑 Top your pepper plant seedlings as seen in prior post. 🫑 Snip flowers and fruits from new seedlings. 🫑 Keep this up for at least three weeks. 🫑 This is true for peppers and tomatoes. 🌸 Deadheading garden flowers is the same concept. The more often and quickly you remove spent flowers from marigolds, cosmos, calendula, zinnia, etc the larger and more beautiful the next flower will be. 🍅 This is not something you should feel bad about. This is good for you and the plant! You got this garden warriors. 🫑 The plant needs to focus its energy on growing roots and a strong stem, branches, etc. 🫑 It can be painful to cut off these symbols of progress but remember peppers produce late in the season. Like late late. Also they’re perennial. So there’s no rush to get them fruiting. 🫑This practice improves the overall health of your plant and that will increase future yields. 🫑 So get those snips and let’s practice loving pepper care. 🫑Here’s the surprise - at least for new gardeners. Green bell peppers are just immature / unripe red, orange, yellow, purple peppers. All peppers go through a green phase. You can pick them green or let them mature to their color. (This is why green peppers can be hard to digest.) 🌈 Organic vegan “veganic” vegetable gardening is my passion. Organic has gotten pretty muddied over the decades. I believe organic should mean ethical. And for me that means animal-free fertilizers. What does organic mean to you? ✍🏼 Please leave a comment, ask a question, share an experience.
