#soapfail in real time. Cold process soap is absolutely an art and a science at the same time. I had a bad feeling about this soap at the time of the pour, and confirmed it when I cut into the soap. Your soap is not supposed to be a putty. Anything can mess up the chemical reaction taking place, from the temperature of the room, the oils or the lye. It could be that there was too much water or too much lye. Or not enough of either. It could be additives you put in like clays, or funky oils, or the essential oil causing your batch to not set up. As frustrating as this can be, it is also the best thing about making soap. Because when you get everything right, it’s a damn good feeling. So back to the pen and paper to check my math. 🌿 Fresh & Earthy Soap Recipe Cold Process | 42 oz Loaf 🧴Oil Blend: • Lard – 714g (60%) • Coconut Oil – 298g (25%) • Avocado Oil – 178g (15%) 🧪 Lye Solution: • Distilled Water – 380g • Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) – 152g 🌿 Essential Oils: • Lemon – 10g • Tea Tree – 8g • Eucalyptus – 10g • Sandalwood – 8g 🧼 Instructions: 1. Wear gloves + goggles. 2. Mix lye into water. Cool to ~100–110°F. 3. Melt lard + coconut, then add avocado oil — bring oil mixture to 100-110°F. 4. Blend oils + lye to light trace (slightly thickened) 5. Add essential oils. Blend to trace (pudding consistency) 6. Pour into mold + tap to remove air bubbles. 7. Insulate for 24–48 hrs. Cut into bars then cure for 4–6 weeks. 💚 This bar smells like fresh air and earth — grounding, clean, and nourishing. 🍉 Watermelon Sugar cold process soap made with soap embeds for the seeds! I know I could have just added poppy seeds or something, but I really don’t like poppy seeds in soap. They are soooo scratchy, but I know some people do :) Also, I did want to kind of push myself into an area I don’t normally do, and I was pretty happy with the result!!
