There are a few ways to do gray root highlight touch up. I use this one for that lived in color. -apply root color first -I used a mowhawk section to have more ribbons and dimension -apply highlight right up to the gray root color . @qualitytouchfoil foils . #denverhairstylist #denverhair #coloradohairstylist #balayage #denverhairsalon #haireducation #hair #haircolor #haircolorist

All it takes is my 24 FOIL Placement 💁🏼♀️ for this transformation I wanted to come up with a foil placement that required minimal root shadowing… and here it is! The only foils I have to shadow are the 4 top foils with no over direction. #foilplacement #dimensionalblonde #hairtransformation #lowmaintenancehair #rootshadow #teasylights #fallblonde #haireducation

Welcome back to another episode of mic’d up Monday I’m breaking down the process of a root shadow and sharing all the tips how I create the most seamless melt. Drop your questions below or slide in my DMs🫶 If you see me in the mirror with foils in my own head no you don’t #haireducation #rootshadowblonde

✨ One of my favorite ways to blend gray coverage and highlights in the same session! ✨ You all had so many questions about this technique, so here are a few updated tips that make it seamless: 💗 The color actually helps your highlights melt together for the softest blend. 💗 Keep a towel nearby. I use the tail of my foiling comb to scrape off extra color in each section, then wipe it on the towel before going in with the lightener. (You can see this step in the video!) 💗 Do not stress when the color starts to oxidize next to your lightener. It might look intense, but the lightener will lift cleanly right through it. 💗 I always start my root color application in the back and move forward so the front does not process too long by the time I add my foils. This has been my tried and true approach for years, and it gives such consistent results every time. 🙌 Have more questions? BUT FIRST, WHAT is a root shadow and WHO is it for? ⚡️I use a root shadow (aka root tap, root smudge) to literally “shadow” and blur the line of demarcation after I’ve done highlights. ⚡️Typically I root shadow everyone who gets highlights to soften the grow out. I WON’T do it if the client is adamant about remaining really really bright right from the roots. FORMULA DETAILS: ✖️I use a Demi permanent color ✖️I use a level that’s 1-2 levels darker than the highlight (or the same level for a very minor shadow!) ✖️I love mixing a cool and a neutral or warm tone together (this would be adjusted if someone had a TON of warmth after they were lifted) ✖️I love using @schwarzkopfusa Igora Vibrance and combining a -0 and a -1 or -19 or even a -4 for a smidge more warmth! If you want to see more about root shadowing, I have a few tutorials (plus the full length tutorial from the reel you just watched) about root shadowing on my education platform Blonde Chronicles University. We’re not trying to COVER the greys, we’re just trying to DISGUISE them as “highlights”. That’s why I used a level 6/7 deposit only demi on my client whose natural base is a level 2. This, coupled with actual highlights, creates the perfect blend, and also a soft, seamless grow out. I’m obsessed with @dangerjonescreative’s gloss toners for grey blending 😍 here’s everything I used: Grey blend formula: 2/3 6-0, 1/3 7-0 Lightener: DJ Powder lightener w/ 10-20vol Rootsmudge (for everything EXCEPT her hairline): 5-0, 6-01 Toner: 40g 10-1, 20g 9-1, 20g 9-2, 1 capful (5g) 9-3 Foils: @framar 5x12 embossed #dangerjonescreative #dangerjonesbalayage #dangerjones

Not ready to go fully gray—but tired of harsh grow-out lines? Demi-permanent color might be your solution. Unlike permanent dye, demi blends grays instead of covering them completely. It creates a soft, natural look with no hard demarcation line as your hair grows—so you can stretch time between appointments without the obvious root line. ✨ Think of it as a soft-focus filter for your grays—enhancing your natural color while keeping maintenance low and transitions smooth. 💬 Curious if this is the right approach for your curls? I can help you find a tone and formula that supports both your color goals and your texture. 🔗 Follow me for more tips and book your appointment at the link in the bio! #GrayBlending #DemiPermanentColor #LowMaintenanceColor #CurlyHairColor #CoarseHairCare #DallasStylist #NaturalLookingColor #dfwhairstylist #dallashairsalon #dallashairstylist #downtowndallas #designdistrictdallas #dfwhair #haircutspecialist #curlyhairstyles #curlyhairstylist #hairtexture #CoarseHairCare #Texturedhair #LowMaintenanceHair #HealthyHair #beforeandafter

Soft blonde perfection ✨ Covering gray with permanent color while adding highlights used to make me nervous when I first started doing hair, but over the years, you learn what works and what doesn’t! Some tips I can share: Foil placement is key, alternating between gray coverage and highlight foils for a seamless look. I personally like to apply my root formula first and then envision where the client needs brightness. When working on permanent levels 5 or below, avoid touching the root color with lightener or you risk creating a warm band. Teasing helps soften the blend and pushes the root color off the foil, making for a more natural transition. Finish with a toner to tie everything together for a soft, natural blend. I love using @redkenpro shades Lastly I used @redken’s NEW Naked Gloss Lightweight Shine Oil. It added the perfect final touch—boosting shine and leaving the hair with a silky, polished finish without weighing it done 🫶 Foils @colortrak Comb is @pinkpewter #softblonde #hairappointment #brightblonde #haired #graycoverage #haireducator @saloncentric #redkenambassador #redkenpropartner

My favorite way to create a Balayage look on a gray coverage client! - I do a Foilayage technique and then on damp hair I use a 10 minute color for the root smudge! - To lighten I used @joico Blonde Life Lightener, 20 vol coconut 🥥 oil developer. - Root smudge ~ Lumi10 6NA - Glaze~ Lumishine liquid Demi 10N Tools ⚒️- @framar 😻 @pinkpewter #behindthechair #joico#haireducation #graycoverage #joicolumi10 #licensedtocreate #cosmoprofbeauty #hairtutorial #hairvideos #foilayage #balayageeducation

A deposit-only demi formulated several levels LIGHTER than the natural base is one of my favorite secret weapons for grey blending on dark hair. If my client has a natural level 2 soft black base, then a level 6-7 translucent coverage will make her greys look like soft beigy babylights. Combine that with actual babylights and the blend will be BLENDING. Formulas: Lighter: oxycur + 10-20vol Demi: 6N + 7N REGULAR Colorance (no, not the “Cover Plus”, just the regular blue can) + 2% lotion - the reason I’m not using cover plus in this scenario is because I don’t want to create any unwanted lift/shift in her natural base as that will create added warmth that we’re not looking for. Regular Colorance will also grow out more seamlessly since it doesn’t budge the base. Toner: SEQ - 20 g 10T, 20 g 9V, 20 g 9P, cap full of 9G __________________________________ Hey - like how I teach? I have upcoming classes in NYC & Frederick Maryland!
