🚀 High Jump training session 🚀 It can be hard for people to believe a current 11th grader with PRs of 15’6 in vault, 6707 Dec, and 14.72 110H his best event is not one of those 3. But I’ll stand by it, high jump is his best event. He could very well be a 7 foot jumper this year. Clearing 7’2 at this point of the year with still a lot of technical improvements to be made on the approach is a really positive sign. Last year he was an all power jumper, this fall we are already seeing a better blend of approach speed with power. Smoothing out the inefficiencies on the curve, and utilizing his 10.7 speed can only take him higher. . . . . . . #trackandfield #training #athlete #sprint #coach #speed #jump #vertical #power #jumper #coaching #tips

High jump Training Tips⬇️ 1. Your approach is everything. Should be around 8-10 steps. Draw out the curve with chalk to be consistent. Width is usually between 10-12 feet. 2. The energy & tempo of the approach should always build as you get to your jump. Your approach is starting too fast if it feels out of control and you slow down at your jump. 3. Lean into the curve as you run it. The curve is the last 5 steps of the approach. One key takeaway that helped me when I felt like I was being pulled out of it and taking off too close to the standards was to start my curve sooner. 4. Your last two steps should be moving toward the back corner of the pit you are jumping towards, not parallel to the bar! This is crucial for a quick clearance (not jump along the entire bar) and keeping momentum through your rotation over the bar. 5. Depending on how high you jump, your take off should reflect how far you are jumping from -> higher jumpers need more time to climb in the air before clearing the bar. 6. You should be leaning away from the bar at takeoff. I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH. Your approach will push you into the bar so there’s no need to jump into it on purpose! 7. Stay active in your jump & rotation over the bar. Knee and arms drive up first, shoulders and head will dip so hips drive up over the bar, and legs stay up to finish clearance. 8. Lastly, You should land deep in the middle of the pit, not near the standards or edge of the pit. This was a 6-step approach with the bungie at 5’8. I’m 5’7” for reference. Comment if you’ve tried any of these tips or if you have any questions! Happy to help😊🙌🏼 #highjump #technique #highjumptraining #jumphigh #jumpers

How do high jumpers create rotation? In order to clear the highest bar possible, they need to perform a twisting somersault (Fosbury Flop) so they can get over the bar while the COM can be in line with or even just under the bar (usually COM peaks during flight will be just over the bar) This requires angular momentum that has to be generated on the ground with rotations along vertical, sagittal, and transverse axes. When you run on a curve and plant at an angle with a stiff leg contact, as the swing leg comes through across the body this naturally creates the twisting component since the GRF created from pushing down & forward does not pass directly through the COM. The backward lean combined with a lateral lean towards the plant leg during initial contact creates the forward & lateral angular momentum needed to create the “backwards somersault” component (because GRF does not pass directly through the COM) & gets the jumper in proper position for bar clearance as well as maximizes vertical COM height at takeoff to maximize vertical lift to clear the bar. If you lack lateral or backward lean at initial contact you will fly into the bar & lose jump height. This also shows why a high jump is a UNIQUE type of jump and skill. It’s not simply a vertical translation. There are many unique components that must be mastered, which is why it’s one of the most beautiful events to watch. 👉DM me CHALLENGE if you want to apply for our FREE THP 6 week challenge: Gain 3 inches of vertical in 6 weeks

If you want to perfect your high jump, 80% of the jump happens before you ever leave the ground. Here are actionable cues. First cue: watch the position of your torso pelvis and legs. If your torso is upright and legs are very acutely angled, you’re generating false lean. Second cue: feel pressure pulling you outward. This is actually the sensation of you applying centripetal force, or the force keeping you leaning inward that will eventually be used to generate rotation around the bar. Third cue: film from behind and in the center of your curve. This will let you see how much inward and backward lean you actually have. Two important somersaults result from these leans and too much actually impede the generation of rotation. By applying these three cues, you’ll be able to begin setting up a good high jump takeoff through a mastered approach.

Read caption!🙌🏼 - 1. Don’t worry so much about the “form over the bar.” The approach is 10x more important! 2. Wanna make clear progress? Training helps yes but… progress is made with proper SLEEP/HYDRATION/NUTRITION/RECOVERY! 3. Don’t compared yourself to other jumpers/marks/records/standards etc… it’ll just affect your mental going into meets/college. You are your own jumper, on your own path to success! You never know what can happen if you just trust YOUR training! Bonus tip: HAVE FUN!, find ways to enjoy the event. Chances are, when your feelings/thoughts are positive, practices and meets will have better results! Any questions? ↗️ Lean at take-off — don’t twist! Rotating the torso leaks reactive force and costs you height. ⬇️ This is something I’ve discovered through experience, not just textbooks — though it’s supported by research like “Sporteissenschaftliche Aspekte des Hochsprungs” by Wolfgang Killing. I’ve seen countless high jumpers of all ages and levels make this mistake. I did it myself for over a year before Stefan Holm helped me identify and correct it. As I’ve emphasized in previous posts, lean and posture are critical components in high jump — and this ties directly into that principle. However, it’s important to remember that a successful jump is the result of multiple factors working together. Focusing too much on a single element without considering the bigger picture can easily lead to new problems. ❗️Key takeaway: Watch for excessive torso rotation at take-off. True lean is not twisting — and understanding the difference can unlock significant improvements. High Jump Fosbury Flop is performed in a variety of individualised techniques by various Jumpers, however these are the main technical tips for an efficient jump: 1. Body is angled away from the bar on take off.✅ 2. Lead arm is lifted as High as possible.✅ 3. Eyes over Shoulder.✅ 4. Knee drive is straight not angled across the body.✅ 5. Foot angled between the 2 corners of the mat.✅ 6. Shoulders are Parallel as they clear the bar.✅ 7. High point of the arch is directly above the bar.✅ 8. Land on your shoulders.✅ #whatgravity #highjump #athlete #tracktips #highjumptraining #highjumpchamp #trackstar #ultimateathleticsuae #ultimateracenight #trackgirls #newbalance #athletics #trackandfield #dubai #uae

High jump technique is so difficult and all of these moving parts happen in the blink of an eye. Using a spring board or some sort of jump box, allows the jumper more time to work on specifics. It’s great for focusing on knee drive and rotation drills- forces the athlete to hold these positions longer than what “feels normal.” Great practice @weston_rawson #559sports #youthsportsdevelopment #centralvalleytrackandfield #centralvalleyhighjump #centralsection #cifcentralsection #ciftrackandfield #cifcentralsection #highjumptechnique #highjumpform #highjumpcurve #highjumpapproach #kneedrive

High Jump Is not about “Arch” or how well you can bend your back. It’s about getting your hips to the highest point and rotating over the bae. This video is a 7’3 Clearance. #highjump
