Finding one of the UK’s rarest animals, the Capercaillie 🦃 It’s an animal I’ve wanted to see for a while here in the UK and I’ve made several trips to find them over a couple years. In March on a search, we found evidence of them but no live animal. So this September I went searching again and after a while, I found one ✅ Capercaillie numbers are desperately low in the UK, with the last count showing roughly 500 of them left, 100 or so of those being Male. They’re incredibly difficult to see and a real treat if you manage to 🦃 I want to make it clear that I did NOT search during the breeding (Lekking) season (April-August) and I didn’t set about to disturb them. In this video, I am on a public footpath within the Cairngorms National Park, with thoughts in mind of potentially seeing one. When this did eventually occur, I backed off and gave the big fella space. Between April-August, you should not go looking for Capercaillie, this is when they’re at their most vulnerable and any disturbance to their breeding could ruin that years efforts #wildlifepresenter #wildlife #wildlifephotography #ukwildlife #uk #animalanomalies #bbcwildlife #bbcearth #rareanimals #capercaillie #bird #grouse
