✨If you’ve been dreaming about sewing a quilt jacket but feel a little nervous to start, you’re not alone. ✨After lots of searching, I gathered 6 quilt patterns that are trendy, have the right drape, and would be perfect for quilted jackets and coats—they’’re all officially on my to-make list!

Make a demo first. I used old towels (they’re thick like a quilt) so I could test the fit and construction before cutting into a precious quilt—and I’m so glad I did. It gave me the confidence to finally do it! ✨After my mock-up, I made three small but important changes:
1️⃣ Lengthened the sleeves and body hem about 3”
2️⃣ Gave the neckline a little more room (about 1” at the shoulders)

I’ll never forget the lady who bought this one, I loved her so much!! I wore this jacket all around nantucket the day before my pop up & apparently she saw me that day walking around, went home, and did a big google deep dive search trying to find something similar and couldn’t!! I love when she told me that story (vintage quilt jackets are SO special!). She ended up hearing about & coming to my pop up the next day and I didn’t have this one on the rack (I thought about keeping it so left it in my hotel room !!!) but I just loved that story so much and how much she loved that specific jacket, I told her to come back the next day & I’d sell it to her… she did and now she’s the one walking around in it making others google search where to find it & they can’t … one of a kind!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! ❤️

I wear a quilt jacket every time I go out and about and each time I do, I am stopped by strangers and asked about where my jacket is from. It is so fun to tell them about the history of the quilt, that it’s one of a kind, and beyond that, it is so comforting being wrapped in a warm hand made quilt. Quilt jacket number 5: Ohio star variation indigo red and cream, if you’re looking for a larger jacket, this one fits more loose and should fit up to an XXL. For reference, I am a size small to medium. Pockets added, this beauty was hand stitched in the late 1800s. Incredibly soft, the indigos and maroon and red calico fabrics are fantastic, it really is a work of art!
