My new linocut print "Flow" in the making 🔪 These smooth, curvy cuts are always my favorite 😍 I’m running a little Early Bird special on this print to celebrate the launch, but it’s only valid until the end of the week so don’t wait too long if you want to grab one! Link in bio.

A hand-pulled print is the closest that printing comes to painting. You have so much of the artists hand in the final piece - different tones and densities dependant upon the pressure the printer uses as they transfer the design. All prints are unique, but these are more obviously so, and all because of our delightful (frustrating?) human inconsistency! ~ For me, there is a delicate and fragile kind of beauty to something hand printed, and I have certain plates that I will always choose to print this way. Even though I own a press! ~ If you look closely at the final image and you will see there’s a gentle grain or texture to the ink quality, and in my opinion this works really well for this very delicate design by drawing out all the finer lines and details… ~ I really recommend printing by hand as a way into linocut. As I mention in the reel you can literally use a wooden spoon and get some amazing results. In the video I’m using what’s called a ‘baren’ which can be bought relatively cheaply. ~ You do, of course need to make some choices in order to get good results from hand printing. ☁️⛅ Just Breathe… the last layer is down! This print has become my homage to the sky, a celebration of cloud-watching and a gentle reminder to pause, look up, and take a breath. Over the past few months, I’ve found so much comfort in these small moments of stillness and I hope this captures that feeling.⛅☁️ I’m so pleased with how it turned out, especially when I designed it without much thought for the practicalities of printing it! The jigsaw cuts on layers 1 and 3 were brutal (my hands are still recovering!), but in the end, I think it was worth the effort. ☺️ (Check my grid for more of the process!) Another monoprint using a foil covered card takeaway lid as a plate, this time playing with wiping a lot of the ink away to leave the subject in focus. I had lots of lovely interest and questions from my last post so I’ll cover some of the main points again here for you just in case: Equipment used: - takeaway container lid - basically a foil coated card and yes you can reuse it a few times if you’re gentle 👍🏻 - Ink from Charbonnel - Paynes Grey etching/relief oil based - but any that’s thick enough to work with and not dry out quickly will work - paper type unknown as an old off cut but its quite thick so has some give to it when going through the press - I’ve soaked it in water for around 15 minutes and then blotted it touch dry to get that embossed edge - plus I think it prints slightly better than dry 🤷‍♀️ #slowmade #originalart #printmaking #monoprint #artworkinprogress #monoprinting #monotype #handdrawn #artandmemory #retroarmchair #oneofakindart #artlovers

Intricate bee linocut print. Carved over several months with a huge amount of detail going inyo the wings to make them as lightweight and delicate as possible. Bee wings are made of a thin membrane supported by a network of veins, which provide strength and carry hemolymph (insect “blood”). This linocut print consisted of two plates. One consited of the yellow areas and was printed first. The second, contained the black details.

A small lino printing tip I got told that’s changing the way I work with handmade paper! Lokta paper has fibres that can get pulled up whilst using a baren, so by putting a sheet of parchment paper in between you stop that happening and protect the paper. This is gonna make my life a whole lot easier istg #printmaking #printmaker
