#Diy Patchwork Quilted Jacket Tutorial

PART 2 of turning a sweatshirt into a quilted jacket! Let’s start attaching our strips to our sweatshirt pieces! NOTE: You will be sewing all the strips onto the FUZZY side of the sweatshirt pieces. FRONT PANEL PIECES *Start with your two front pieces. Lay a strip down the front center edge and in. Sew on the outside edge with an 1/8 seam allowance. *Next grab another strip and line it up how it will look good for whatever pattern you have chosen. Put right sides together of the strips and sew with a 1/4 inch seam allowance down on the opposite side of the 1/8 seam side. *Press open the seam of the two pieces. You will need to press open each seam you do on the whole jacket. *Repeat this process with the strips until the whole panel is covered. Then trim off all the excess fabric from the edge of the sweatshirt. *Repeat all the previous steps on the other front sweatshirt panel. BACK PANEL *You will start in the center of the back sweatshirt piece. *Place a strip down the center of the sweatshirt. Then grab another strip and place right sides together. Sew a 1/4 inch seam allowance down the left side of the strips. Then do the same to the right. *Press open the seam of the strips. *Repeat this process until you have covered the whole back of the sweatshirt piece. *Then trim off all excess strips of fabric along the sweatshirt edge. *I then like to do an 1/8 inch seam stitch on the sides and sleeve area to hold everything in place. It helps when we go to sew the sweatshirt back together. SLEEVES *For the sleeves, you will do them the same as the back. Start in the center and work your way out. Make sure you press all the seams. *Trim off excess fabric along sweatshirt edge. *Sew the 1/8 inch seam along the outside of the sleeve edges. REMEMBER I used 2 and 2 1/2 inch strips and I just laid them out in a random pattern. But this concept can be used with same sized strips as well. Just have fun! Now you have all your pieces covered! Make a demo first. I used old towels (they’re thick like a quilt) so I could test the fit and construction before cutting into a precious quilt—and I’m so glad I did. It gave me the confidence to finally do it! ✨After my mock-up, I made three small but important changes:
1️⃣ Lengthened the sleeves and body hem about 3”
2️⃣ Gave the neckline a little more room (about 1” at the shoulders)

♻️ Turning old jeans into a quilted jacket One of the most physically challenging projects I ever made because denim and batting was so thick that I broke many needles and my body was aching from carrying it through the machine. Next time I would do without the batting but it did help create a nice quilted texture in the end. I’ve never made a quilt before but damn! SAVE this post so you can make your own! 👉 I finally found a cool way to use up 99%, if not 100% of the blanket for a jacket! Only some of the fringe was leftover, so on a non-fringe blanket, you're golden! This technique also heavily relies on the original shape of the blanket! (Mine was 62x42 inches, which ended up making a pullover that was 21 inches long, and a sleeve length of 60! The bust is 28, after cutting out the hood pattern! ✂️ 📢 Make sure you measure and double check everything before cutting! And make sure you cut the sleeve/pit area curved so it doesn't get bulky when you turn it right side out. Aka "dolman" style. You can try a slightly different technique, where instead of making a hood, use the 2 extra panels for cuffs, addional pockets, etc! How do you think I did!?
